The building, located in the district center, Muftü Mahallesi, was built in 1921. It's a three-story mansion with an interior sofa plan. Atatürk came to Rize during his visit to the country in 1924 and stayed in this house as a guest of Mehmet Mataracı. It was donated to the Provincial Special Administration by the Mataracı Family to be turned into a museum on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Atatürk. There is a large garden in the north of the mansion, where some items belonging to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk are exhibited, as well as ethnographic artifacts excavated from the area.
