Mardin Province is one of the largest provinces in the Southeastern Anatolia Region. It is bordered by Syria to the south, Şanlıurfa to the west, Diyarbakır and Batman to the north, Siirt and Şırnak to the east.

In old sources, the name appears as "Maridin, Marede and Marde".

 

The stones unearthed in some excavations in the province of Mardin have been dated to the Paleolithic Age.
