Balıkesir is the 17th most populous city in Turkey and one of our 6 cities that is bordered by two seas. In addition to being a city, it is one of our six cities that is bordered by two seas. Balykesir has been home to many civilizations with a history dating back to 8000 BC. Among the civilizations it hosted were the Lydians, the Trojans, the Hittites, the Roman Empire, the Byzantines, the Anatolian Seljuk State, the Karesians, and the Ottoman Empire. In the War of Liberation, Kuva-i became an important center of the nation.

Balıkesir, whose ancient name was 'Misya' and whose Hittite name was 'Assuva', was named Karesi when it fell into the hands of the Turks. Later, it was renamed Balykesir.

This city, home to so many civilizations, of course offers a wide range of historical tourism. In addition to its history, Balıkesir, which has an untouched nature, is an important center for both nature and health tourism with its oxygen-rich mountains, blue flag beaches, beautiful islands, and thermal facilities due to its geographical structure.

In a city like ours, as you can see, there are many local flavors. Famous especially for its carpets and its Cologne, this city stands out for its hospitality.
