The area, which was declared a national park in 1993, covers an area of 21,452 hectares. Known as the world's second most important oxygen reservoir, the Goose Mountains get their oxygen from seaweed, not from forests. This oxygen, produced in the sea, accumulates densely up through the mountains. Thanks to the oxygen level, the moisture from the sea and the height of the mountain, a different ecosystem is formed here. There are more than 800 plant species in this ecosystem, 49 of which are native to Anatolia and 31 of which are native to the Goose Mountains.
