The Altar of Zeus
The Altar of Zeus
The Altar of Zeus, also known as the Altar of Zeus, located on Dede Tepe, 700 meters from the village of Adatepe, was made famous by the German journalist Heinrich Schliemann and the archaeologist Judeich. The Altar of Zeus, which you can easily access from the village to the hill, was formed by the working of a large rock mass. The stairs that provided access to the rock were carved and consisted of altar niches, seating areas, and a shrine. It should also be noted that the shrine under the altar, which contains water, is called the Cave of Zeus. In the Iliad, Homer mentions that Zeus lived in the Goose Mountains, or Mount Ida, and led the Trojan War in this area. The Altar of Zeus, one of the most scenic spots on Mount Ida in mythology, is referred to in this epic as the Hill of Gargaros. It is even known that Zeus and his wife Hera fell in love here.
