Cunda Island, also known as Alibey Island, is approached by two separate bridges to the Ayvalık district of Balıkesir. The island is populated by Turks who migrated from the islands of Crete and Midilli. This particular migration took place at the time of the population exchange between Turkey and Greece, and many of the elderly population are aware of what happened as a result.
