Spanish Riding School

The Spanish Riding School, a relic of the Viennese Royal Family, attracts a lot of attention from locals and tourists due to the performances of the Lipizza horses. Every year, crowds of tourists come here to see these shows.

One of the symbols of the city, this school was named the Spanish Riding School because the horses in the shows belong to Andalusian Spain. These horses were brought to Vienna when the Habsburg dynasty took control of Spain in the 16th century. These horses were brought to Vienna when Spain took control in the 19th century.

Because the movements of the horses and riders are reminiscent of a ballet, the performances here are often referred to as the "ballet of white horses".
