The Cacabey Madrasah
The Cacabey Madrasah
Located in the center of the city of Karsehir, the madrasa was built as an observation house in 1271-1272 by the emir of Karsehir Nurettin Cibril Bin Cacabey during the Seljuk era and was later converted into a mosque. The madrasa is made entirely of cut stone and rubble stone, has a square plan and is part of the group of madrassas with a closed courtyard with two balconies. It has the distinction of being the only example in Anatolia with three different brick lattice systems applied to its brick-built Chinese and single-glass minaret. This building, which at the time was seen as a higher school of astronomy, taught courses in Islamic law, philosophy and mysticism. There is also a tomb of Cacabey in the left adjacent to the Cacabey mosque. The madrasa, which was described as a ruin in 19th-century travelogues, has undergone various repairs and now serves as a mosque.
