The castle of Asar in Gerede
The castle of Asar in Gerede
Gerede Asar Castle is located on a rocky hill in all directions, near the villages of Örencik, Çağış and Akçaşehir, east of Gerede. A large amount of Byzantine pottery can be seen on the surrounding land, which indicates that the Fortress of Asar belongs to the Byzantine period. For this reason, as one of the historical places to visit in Bolu, Bolu can be added to the list of places to visit. There is also a cave over the castle that faces north. According to legends, there was a passage under the Ulusu River between the hill where Gerede Asar Castle was located and the hill to the east. The people lived in the city, which was built on a hill to the east, and at the moment of the enemy's attack, they defended themselves by going through the pass under the river to the Fortress of Gered Asar.
