Karaman Castle is thought to have been built in the late 11th to early 12th centuries. The castle consists of three inner walls. These are called outer, middle and inner castles. The inner castle is located on a mound with traces from the Bronze Age, Roman and Byzantine periods. The Ottomans repaired the inner castle in 1465. In these repairs, books and architectural pieces of previously demolished structures were used in the body walls of the castle.
