The castle of Niğde

Niğde Castle, the castle surrounding the hill where the old city of Niğde is located, is surrounded by three walls. But some of the remains of the castle, many of which were demolished, became the walls of the houses. Today, the part of the hill that includes a fortress in the northeast is still standing. Among the ruins of recent times can be seen the remains of two constellations that were converted into dwellings. This wall probably extended as far as the Sungurbey Mosque. A small part of the walls opposite the Sungurbey Mosque has been restored. The walls and towers on the west side are completely gone. The main tower, which is the only surviving part of the castle, was built on the highest point of the hill.
