The cave of Dupnisa
The cave of Dupnisa
Located within the boundaries of the village of Sarpdere, which belongs to the Demirköy district of the Kırklareli province, the cave has the distinction of being the only cave in Thrace open to tourism. The length of the cave, which has an underground system with 2 and 3 entrances, is 3150 m. The Water Cave is located 60 m below the cave, while the Girl Cave and the Dry Cave are located in the upper part. The water springs from the cave form the Rezve Gorge, the Turkish-Bulgarian border. The Maiden's Cave is closed to tourists due to the heavy presence of bats, while 200 m of the Dry Cave and 250 m of the Water Cave are open to tourists. Studies conducted in 2001 found that eight species and 30,000 bats lived in this cave. It's been found to be inhabited by thousands of bats.
