It is located in the Artvin Çayağzı neighborhood. It is located on the Erzurum-Samsun highway at the point where Artvin provides access to the city center, opposite the Artvin Bridge over the Çoruh River, attached to the main rock 70 meters above the riverbed. Inside the castle there are the remains of a chancel and a chapel. This fortress at the entrance to the city of Artvin on the banks of the Choruh River was built in 937 by Bagrat (Georgian) King Oshet the Great. The old name of the castle is Livana.
