The Monastery of the Virgin Mary

Sarıyer village is located in Kayadibi Mahalle, 11 kilometers from Şebinkarahisar district. The Monastery of the Virgin Mary is a work of the Byzantine period. In a large hollow in the middle of steep cliffs, it resembles the Monastery of Sürmene in Trabzon. There are a total of thirty-two rooms with paintings on the walls. There are four student rooms of equal size side by side on the second floor, which is climbed by stairs. At the top is a church carved out of the rocks. Structural complexes such as a dormitory, a classroom, a church, a dining room, a fountain are located together. It has been opened to tourism as a Grade 1 natural and archaeological site.
