The Opium Ice Cave

One of the famous places to visit in Afyon is the Ice Cave, a natural wonder formed on the northwestern peak of the Afyonkarahisar Sultandağs with a height of 2519 meters. The cave gets its name from the ice at the bottom. The Ice Cave consists of three levels, and the cool air that greets visitors at the cave entrance gets colder as they descend.

At the bottom of the cave, there are ice floes and layers of ice that cover the rocks like a blanket. Following the Afyon-Konya highway, you can reach the Little Cherry Plateau by car, and after a strenuous walk of about four hours, you can reach the Ice Cave. When going to the cave alone, it is essential to have a guide with you who knows the way, otherwise you may have difficulty finding the cave on your own. A good pair of sneakers, water, and a snack are among the things you should take with you.
