The Propeller Madrasah
Pervane Madrasah is a historical madrasah located in the center of Sinop. The madrasa is located opposite the northern entrance to the Alaaddin Mosque courtyard. The north-south oriented structure is rectangular in plan. It is a fine example of the madrasa type with two balconies and an open courtyard. The entrance of the madrasa is decorated with marble and has a large courtyard and two balconies. In the middle of the courtyard there is an octagonal pavilion. On the east and west faces of the courtyard there are arched recesses extending north-south and seated on three columns, behind the recesses there are ten small rooms of five. Each cell has a stove and a large window overlooking the street.
It was not used as a madrassa after the law of Tavhid-i Tedrisat (Teaching Union) on 3 March 1924. In the backyard of the madrassa is the tomb of Gazi Çelebi, the last ruler of the Pervaneoğulları Beyliketi, and his daughter. The madrasa was allocated to the Governorate of Sinop for use for tourism purposes by the General Directorate of Foundations. This historic building, which is no longer used as a madrasa, serves as a bazaar. There are shops serving Handicrafts and Handicraft products and these shops are heavily visited by tourists.
