The lower part of the Red Tower, named after the baked red bricks at the top, is made of stone blocks. This well-built defense tower was built by the Seljuk ruler Alaeddin Keykubat. The octagonal structure, which has become a symbol of the city, is also featured in the Travelogue of Evliya Çelebi. "Thank God" is inscribed on the north wall of the tower, which is said to have a capacity of 2,000 people. The tower has 56 marble windows, 22 boiling asphalt and water pouring openings, and 6 loaves of bread.
