Skopje is the capital and largest city of North Macedonia. This city, the political, cultural, economic and academic center of North Macedonia, is divided in two by the Vardar River that runs through its middle.

The city is densely populated by the Turkish population. Most of the Turks who were in these regions in 1900 and 1910 and during the Balkan Wars live in places such as Ümraniye, Kadıköy, Kartal, Maltepe and Pendik, Zeytinburnu, Bayrampaşa, Gaziosmanpaşa in Istanbul. There are still Turks in the cities of Skopje and Gostivar.
