Nazilli is the second most populous district of Aydın Province in the Aegean Region. It's the county. Aydın-Denizli Road (E-87 Road) is located on the Izmir-Denizli railway, 45 km from Efeler district, 81 km from Denizli. The sister city is Serdarli from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Although the exact origin of the name of this district, whose history dates back hundreds of years, is unknown, many researchers agree that it has something to do with the word naz.
There are different legends about the origin of the name Nazilli. It's not.
1-Nazilli was founded near Dereköy by a Turkish nobleman named Nazlu. In the city he founded, according to the traditions of those days, he gave his name Nazlu and remained Nazilli over time.
Historians such as 2-Hammer and Evliye Çelebi have suggested that the name Nazilli originated from here, comparing the beauty and gentleness of the city to these girls, as well as their beautiful and polite daughters.
It also tells the story of the hopeless love that the sons of Mr. Aydın Sancak sometimes fell for the beautiful daughters of the Nazilli.
Nazilli is one of the oldest settlements in the Aegean Region. There is no exact information about the first settlement of the county seat. However, it is known that the Luwians settled in the valley of Menderes, which remained in the area of Karya.
The first settlement in this area was the ancient city of Mas Tavra, founded by the Lydians. At that time, the economic development of the Ionian cities in the west of the region and the fact that the city was located on the trade route between the Aegean and Eonian countries (Hierapolis-Tripolis-Mastaura-Nysa-Tralleis-Magnesia-Ephesus) made the Nazilli area gain importance and develop. The fact that the railway station in the district is on the Izmir-Aydın line, the first railway line in Turkey, has also led to the rapid population of the district.
