Lake Aktaş (Hazapin) is a tectonically formed lake located on the border of Georgia with Ardahan. While half of the lake is within the borders of Georgia, there are twelve small uninhabited islands in the lake. While the border passes through the deepest part of the lake, all the islands (13) remain within the borders of Turkey, including the largest, Big Island and Başak Island. These islands of grassland and reed beds are birds' feeding, sheltering, and breeding grounds. Lake Aktaş is one of the few places in Turkey where the white pelican and the velvet duck nest. The lake is also inhabited by the angit, the long-legged, the black-legged, and the Lake Van gull. The lake is protected under the Wetland Protection Ordinance due to white pelican, velvet duck and angitt.

Tabiki gölün oluşmunda Kura nehri var bu yüzden kura nehri önce Gürcistan sonra Azerbeycan a girer, daha sonra aras nehri ile birleşerek Hazar denizine dökülür
