Chorlu has a deep-rooted history as an ancient Phrygian-Greek colony that has existed since the Bronze Age. This area, which was of strategic importance during the Roman and Byzantine Empires, was built by the Roman Empire with walls and fortresses, and over time was fortified during the Byzantine period. With this measure, it is intended to make it difficult for the castle to fall back into the hands of the Byzantines and to defend Chorlu. Unfortunately, no trace of the walls has survived to this day, and the castle is in ruins today.

According to historical sources, in 1360, during the reign of Murat Hüdavendigar, the Ottoman forces, who conquered the region that the Byzantines called Tekirdağ as Rodosto, then turned to Çorlu. When the Byzantine commander of the castle refused to surrender, the castle was surrounded. During the clashes, the castle commander was wounded in the eye, which made it easier to take the castle. After the castle commander was captured, he was killed and people from Anatolia were brought to Çorlu and settled there. In later times, however, the Byzantines recaptured Chorlu.

Later, during the reign of Yıldırım Beyazıt, Çorlu fell back into the hands of the Ottomans, and Yıldırım Beyazıt destroyed the castle and the walls, preventing it from falling under Byzantine control again.
