The historic Antep Houses
The historic Antep Houses
The Historic Antep Houses, located in the Southeastern Anatolian region of our country, attract attention with their technical characteristics and eye-catching architecture. The general structure of the two-story houses consists of cut stones. These stones are known as pebbles, minaret stones, hawar stones, and quarries. This ensures that homes are warm in winter and cool in summer. In this respect, it resembles Mardin's houses.
In the historic Antep houses, the courtyards have a very important place. The fact that this part of the house is called "life" highlights the importance of the courtyards. The pools, called Ganne, add activity to the courtyards. The absence of glass on the ground floors is a very important detail to ensure privacy in the houses. There's a section underneath the houses called the vault, and it's very cool and sunny, and that's where people store their food.
The roof system of these houses, which were built as roofs, was later replaced by alaturka tiles. One of these historic houses has been converted into the Hasan Süzer Ethnography Museum. Domestic and foreign tourists who want to come to Gaziantep and get to know its history and culture usually prefer boutique hotels converted from Antep Historic Houses to stay.
