The Karataş Mosque
The Karataş Mosque
The sanctuary of the work, built of rubble stone, has three stages. The legs that make up the scenes are connected to each other by stock exchange belts. The eastern part of the mosque courtyard was converted into a summer mosque by raising the floor and adding an altar. Like the other mosques in Sille, the interior must be decorated with rich wood. Both altars, the pulpit and the pulpit are made of wood, and the work shows very high-quality vegetal decorations made in the wood-cutting technique. Another element that makes the structure special are the handicrafts found inside. Candles, chandeliers, suspended gas lamps, original Sille hand-woven carpets, and candles with the Ottoman coat of arms of the donor are just a few of these artifacts. Restored in 2010 by the Municipality of Selçuk, today it is open only for teravih prayers during the months of Ramadan.
