Gevaş County is 40 kilometers away from the city center of Van, the provincial capital. The distance between Gevaş and Tatvan is 104 kilometers.

The county is located on the shore of Lake Van. It has wide beaches and natural beaches. In particular, there are places where people in and around Van spend their weekends. Lake Van, known as the Sea of Eastern Anatolia, increases the tourism potential here. Local and foreign tourists spend their summer holidays here. Due to its border with Iran, it attracts a large number of tourists from this country.

The district is home to important historical sites. Important historical buildings that can be visited can be listed as follows: İzzet Şir Mosque, Hişet Fortress, Hatun (Celme Hatun) Dome, Historic Seljuk Turks Cemetery, Akdamar Church.

The Abali ski resort, which has a modern piste, is one of the sought-after spots for winter tourism.

Agriculture and animal husbandry are the main sources of livelihood in the county. Beekeeping activities are also maintained at a significant level, with an annual honey production of about 181 tons. There is also a pearl bounty hunt from Van Lake.
