It is located next to the Kutahya Grand Mosque. The madrassa building was built in 1314 and is also known as the Vacidiye Madrassa. The entrance of the structure, built of cut stone, reflects the characteristics of Seljuk art. It has nine small rooms with vaulted doors that open onto the central space. The museum exhibits works from the Late Miocene to the Paleolithic, Chalcolithic, Early Bronze, Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. One of the most important artifacts in the Archaeological Museum is the Amazon Lahdi. The sarcophagus found in the salvage excavation at Çavdarhisar-Aizanoi was made using the high-elevation technique. On the side faces of the plate there are high reliefs depicting the wars between the Greeks and the Amazons. The Amazon sarcophagi are among the best preserved in the world. The museum was opened to the public in 1965.
