The Madrasah of Karatay
The Madrasah of Karatay
The Karatay madrassa is Sultan II. It was built in 649 AH (1251 AD) by Emir Celaleddin Karatay during the reign of Izzaddin Keykavus. The architect is unknown. The madrasa, which was also used during the Ottoman era, was built in the 19th century. It was abandoned at the end of the century. The Karatay madrasa, which plays an important role in the Chinese craftsmanship of the Anatolian Seljuk period, was opened to the public in 1955 as a "museum of Chinese artifacts". In the Karatay museum, among the excavation finds of the Kubat-Abad palace on the shore of Lake Beyşehir, wall tiles, tiles and glass plates are exhibited, as well as tiles and ceramic plates from the Seljuk and Ottoman periods, candles and plaster finds from Konya and its surroundings.
