The congress building, the first building where the Erzurum Congress met, was built in 1864 by Migridic Sanasaryan and educated as Sanasaryan College (Armenian Girls' Boarding School). Before the Republic, the building was bought and given to the state. The building suffered a fire in late 1924 and the wooden part was completely burned. After the fire, the building was repaired and opened in 1926 as the Gazi Elementary School, which later continued to exist as the High School of Fine Arts and the High School of Social Sciences. A hall of the school was opened to the public in 1960 as the Atatürk and Erzurum Congress Museum, which was handed over to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism after the restoration carried out by TBMM between 2011-2013. Today, the Congress Building serves as the Directorate of the Atatürk Painting, Sculpture Museum and Gallery.
