Büyük Atatürk, Silifke’ye olan ilgisini burayı dört defa şereflendirerek göstermiştir. Ulu Önder, Silifke’yi ziyaretlerinden birinde burada bir çiftlik satın almış ve merkezi bu çiftlik olmak üzere bir Tarım Kredi Kooperatifi kurulması için talimat vererek kendileri de bu kuruluşun 1 no’lu üyesi olmuştur. Atatürk, Silifke’ye ve Silifkelilere olan sevgisini, Silifke İdman Yurdu’nu ziyaretinde, şeref defterine yazdığı şu ibarelerle belirtmiştir: “Silifke’ye geldiğimden çok memnunum. Beni unutmayacağınızı bilirim. Sizi kalbimden çıkarmam. Gazi Mustafa Kemal “ Ata’nın Silifke’ye ilk gelişlerinde (27 Ocak 1925) gecelediği ev bugün restore edilmiş; kullandığı eşyalar sergilenerek Atatürk Evi Müzesi olarak ziyarete açılmıştır.
