The Haydarpaşa railway station
One of the iconic buildings of Istanbul, Haydarpaşa Station takes its name from Hadim Haydarpaşa, one of the courtesans of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. As you approach the Kadıköy ferry dock, the Haydarpaşa Railway Station welcomes you from the shore in all its majesty. Designed by two German architects, the Haydarpaşa Station is immediately recognizable as different from classical Ottoman architecture. The Haydarpaşa Station, which was badly damaged by a fire in 2010, unfortunately cannot be visited as renovation work is still ongoing.
