The foundation of this monument was laid by Atatürk on August 30, 1924 in Zafertepe and was opened to the public in 1927. In 1961, by Law No. 220, it was decided to move the Monument to Berberçam Hill, where the incident took place, in 1964 it was removed with the construction of the Victory Monument in Zafertepe ⁇ and moved to the Afyonkarahisar Museum, in 1979 it was built in its current location and opened to the public on August 30, 1979.

Atatürk, on August 31, 1922, while touring the battlefield, saw a battalion buried in a pit opened by enemy artillery shells among the martyrs. This holy martyr holds the banner upright with his frozen arm on the ground. The Commander-in-Chief, moved by the sight, orders the purchase of a symbol for the Martyrs' Memorial to be built after the war.

Zafer anıtından Dumlupınar şehiliğine dönüş yolunda gördüm hemen yol kenarı ve çok güzel bir yer. Bölge Şehitlikler ile dolu, mutlaka ziyaret edilmeli

Uşak-Kütahya, Kütahya-Uşak veya Afyon-Uşak yolunu kullananlar için, Dumlupınar'dan girip, görülebilir.. Kurtuluş Savaşı'nın başladığı, sevk ve idare edildiği nokta.. Ulaşım kolay ve bence her Türk'ün ziyaret etmesi gereken bir yer.. Bölgede yakın mesafelerde bir çok şehitlikte var.. Allah şehitlerimize rahmet etsin, çevre düzenlemesi için, emeği geçenlere teşekkürler..

Geçmişinde büyük anı bulunduran anıt. Duyduğum kadarıyla 1927'den bu güne kadar dokunulmamış anıt.

M.Kemal Atatürk, 31 Ağustos 1922 günü muharebe meydanını gezerken şehitler arasında düşman topçu mermisinin açtığı çukura gömülmüş bir sancaktar görür. Bu aziz şehit, toprağın üstünde katılaşmış kolu ile sancağı dimdik tutmaktadır. Manzara karşısında duygulanan Başkomutan, savaş sonrasında yapılacak Şehit Asker Anıtı için bunun sembol alınmasını emreder. Atatürk, 30 Ağustos 1924 günü anıtın temel atma töreninde yaptığı konuşmada, bu Anıtın taşıdığı anlam ve önemle ilgili olarak; ‘‘Hiç şüphe etmemelidir ki, yeni Türk devletinin, genç Türk Cumhuriyetinin temeli burada sağlamlaştırıldı, ebedi hayatı burada taçlandı. Bu sahada akan Türk kanları, bu semada uçuşan şehit ruhları, Devlet ve Cumhuriyetimizin ebedi muhafızlarıdır. Burada temelini attığımız ‘‘Şehit Asker Abidesi’’ işte o ruhları, o ruhlarla beraber gazi arkadaşlarını, fedakâr ve kahraman Türk Milletini temsil edecektir. Bu Abide Türk Vatanına göz dikenlere, Türk’ün 30 Ağustos günündeki ateşini, süngüsünü, cesaretini, kudret ve iradesindeki şiddeti hatırlatacaktır.’’tarihi sözünü söylemiştir.
