Dalaman railway station
Dalaman railway station
Our place next to the market is a station without a train. The story of the only station in the world where no trains pass is as follows: in 1874, Abbas Hilmi Pasha decided to build a hunting lodge in Dalaman, a train station in Alexandria, and asked France for building materials. It is only after construction has begun that it is noticed that these materials have been loaded onto the wrong ships and have arrived in different places. Instead of demolishing the station, Abbas Hilmi Pasha built a mosque next to it. And the historic train station, which replaced the hunting lodge in Dalaman, has survived to the present day and has always been used for different purposes. The surroundings of the railway station, now used as the building of the Ministry of Agriculture, are decorated with palm trees brought from Egypt.
