Sultan Ahmet Square, which has been an important place throughout history, was used as a Hippodrome during the Byzantine period and as a Horse Square during the Ottoman period. Today, the square is home to the most important works of Istanbul. In addition to large works such as the Hagia Sophia Mosque, the Sultan Ahmet Mosque, the Yerebatan pendulum, the Hürrem Sultan Bath, works such as the Roman and Byzantine period's Örme Dikilitaş, Obeliks and the Serpentine column can also be seen in the square. In the middle of the square is the German Fountain, which was built as a memorial to the visit of Kaiser Wilhelm. In the square you can find many street vendors selling corn, chestnuts, ice cream, bagels, as well as luxurious restaurants for eating.
