The Archaeological Museum of Konya
The Konya Archaeological Museum was founded in 1901 and moved twice before moving to its current location in 1962. The museum was established in 1901 in a corner of Karma Middle School. It was moved to the Mevlana Museum in 1927 and then to the Yplikçi Mosque in 1953. The Konya Archaeological Museum was reopened in 1962 in a new building on Sahip Ata Street in the city center, where it is located today. One of the highlights of the museum is the tombs and other artifacts found from the ancient city of Çatalhöyük. The museum's collection consists of a very wide range of culture and artifacts from the Neolithic period, the Bronze Age (Old Bronze and Middle Bronze periods), the Iron Age (Phrygian and Urartian civilizations), the Classical period, the Hellenistic period, the Roman period and the Byzantine period, such as ceramics, objects, stone and bronze objects, ornamental objects and inscriptions.
