The Fethiye Museum and the Mosque

The Church of Pammakaristos, built during the Roman Empire, by Sultan III. It was converted into a mosque by Murad. When the Fethiye Mosque was converted into a mosque, the apse of the church was demolished and replaced by an altar suitable for the direction of the qibla, a minaret and a madrasa were built. It was converted into a museum during the Republican period and reopened to the public in 1960. Today, the northern church is still used as a mosque, while the annex church has walls decorated with the most beautiful mosaics of the 14th century, and after restoration in 1938-1940, the museum, which was converted into a unit attached to the Hagia Sophia Museum, was opened to the public in 2006. Decorated with the most beautiful mosaics of the century, the museum, which was renovated in 1938-1940 and turned into a museum attached to the Hagia Sophia Museum, was opened to the public in 2006.
