The Vidin Gate is located in the northeastern part of Belgrade Castle. The Vidin Gate is a section placed in front of the Lower City wall. Between 1740 and 1760, the Ottomans largely renovated Belgrade Castle and built the Vidin Gate on the foundations of the Austrian walls, which were demolished at that time. The gate is named after the old road to Vidin, a small town in Bulgaria. There are four side rooms with fireplaces at the gate to accommodate the guards. At the beginning of the 19th century, a two-row masonry wall was added above the Vidin Gate. At the beginning of the 20th century, a two-row masonry wall was added to the Vidin Gate. On the sides of the gate, on either side, there is a ditch filled with water, whose positions for seven cannons are crossed by a wooden bridge in front of the gate.
