The Colosseum .
The Colosseum, a symbol of the ancient city of Rome, was built by M. The S. Construction began in the year 72. This structure, originally called the Flavian Amphitheater, is the largest amphitheater in the world. It is 188 meters long and 156 meters wide.
Built to host gladiatorial fights, animal hunts, theater, and reenactments of ancient wars, and to provide spectacular entertainment for the public, it was such a large and sophisticated structure in its time that it sometimes hosted games using ships. Not only games, but also activities that pushed the boundaries to consolidate the emperors' power over the people.
This magnificent structure, which has a capacity of 55,000 spectators, has been badly damaged by natural disasters such as earthquakes and fires over the years. Many projects and improvements have been made for restoration, but pollution and human trafficking have continued to damage the interior.
