The domed houses of Harran
The domed houses of Harran
The vast majority of the domed houses (Conic Houses) identified with Harran are still in existence. Similar houses can be found in the villages of Suruç and Birecik, which are attached to Şanlıurfa. However, the obvious difference between the houses in Harran and the others is the use of bricks in the roof. There are two reasons why their houses in Harran are covered with bricks. One is the lack of wood material due to the desert nature of the area, and the other is the abundance of brick material in Harran. The height of the houses is no more than five meters from the inside. The conical tiles are woven with a series of 30 ⁇ 40 bricks. The roof and walls, whose webs are irregularly bound with clay plaster, are plastered with this plaster on the inside and outside. Harran houses are cool in summer and warm in winter, adapted to the climate of the region.
