The University of Harran
The University of Harran
There is research that the world's first university was founded in Harran. The Harran School is the school where many scientists grew up and taught, such as the famous medical and mathematical scholar Sabit bin Qurrâ; the famous astronomer Al-Battanî, who first correctly calculated the distance from the earth to the moon; the inventor of the atom and algebra; the famous religious scholar Shaykh al-Islam ibn-i-Taymiyya. Harran is essentially the birthplace and meeting place of civilizations. Harran is the center of the Harran School, one of the three major schools of philosophy in the world. When we study the history of Urfa, we see two schools of thought that emerged as the "Harran School of Philosophy" and the "Urfa (Edessa) School of Philosophy". The translations into Arabic of Latin works on Greek philosophy by translators in Harran played an important role in the formation of these schools.
