The Bedesten, which was built in the period of the Ramazanoğulları Beyliği (1579), was called Kırkkaşık Bedesteni due to the spoon decorations on the outside. Although the historical structure was used as an imarethane (ashevi) and madrasa in the early periods, it functioned as a closed market after the republic. The square structure with a rectangular plan is built of cut stone. The structure has 25 rooms and 7 domes, which are entered through 2 doors located in the east and west direction. Kırkkaşık Bedesteni received the Project Competition Award from the Association of Historic Cities; it has begun to serve its visitors again by organizing the shops and offices located inside. Shops selling local handicrafts such as ceramics, wood, copper, silver, leather, textiles and souvenir products, and restaurants serving the local Tarsus menu, cafes serving the local Turkish Coffee (Tarsusi) are popular tourist destinations.
