The St. (Saint) Paul's well.
The St. (Saint) Paul's well.
Saint Paul, who made a great contribution to the spread of Christianity and was the first theorist of Christianity, was born in Tarsus. "St. The historic structure, described as the "Paul's Well", is located in a courtyard that is believed to be the site of the house where St. Paul lived. It is known that the well, located about 200 m northeast of the Ancient Street, was built in the name of Saint Paul and that the remains of an ancient place here were used as a place of pilgrimage for many years. During the heavily Christian era in Tarsus, the water from the well was believed to be sacred and to heal those who drank it. Archaeological excavations in and around the 30-meter-deep well, which has a rich historical past, have shown the existence of Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman cultural layers.
